"Four times 300" Your family's got the Passover seder's Four Questions down pat in Hebrew and English and maybe even Yiddish. So, how about a challenge this year? As in asking the questions in Latin or Thai or Norwegian. How about Zulu, Tulu or Judeo-Iraqi? A new book, 300 Ways to Ask the Four Questions, features the seder staple in tongues ranging from Zulu to Abkhaz. (And, yes, the book is Z to A.) Among our favorite translations is Lawyerese: "Why is this night defined as that period of time commencing at sundown according to readily established almanac norms for sunrise and sundown and continuing until sunrise according to said established norms, different or unlike in substantive and material ways from all other nights as defined hereinabove?" And, that's just the first subsection. Imagine teaching that to your 3-year-old! For fun you might prefer Valley Girl - like, fer sure - or the recorded Donald Duck (in Hebrew!), or waving Hebrew Semaphore flags to pretend you're on an Israeli Naval ship. For a memorable seder, get "300 Ways" from WhyIsThisNight.com or your Jewish bookseller.
